A word for something that is deeper, more compelling than what is obvious or visible

Is there a word to describe the quality of something that is deeper, more substantial, or more compelling than what is obvious or originally thought?

I am thinking of something abstract, like a thought or something philosophical like Ursula K. Le Guin's definition of communication.

(Deceptively) profound -- not obviously, but deceptively profound. It sounds simple but has layers of complex meaning.

Profound adjective (of a person or statement) having or showing great knowledge or insight.
