Wrong audio volume at boot

Solution 1:

Set the sound settings the way you would like to have them when you boot. Then, run the following command.

sudo alsactl store

Next time you boot, the sound settings will be restored.

Solution 2:

gnome-alsamixer which was recently not working is now fixed. Version 0.9.7~cvs.20060916⋯ is the one you want

You can install it by opening a terminal and typing sudo apt-get install gnome-alsamixer, enter then enter your password if asked…

Depending on what distro version you have gnome-alsamixer will open different ways.

But you can always open it in a terminal by typing gnome-alsamixer

Ignore the terminal warnings, if any, it's the Window you want, an it should open (from my computer)…

Make sure the sound card (or possibly card chip name) is selected in the tab if there is more than one.

Then set the master volume to what you's like, and close.

If this doesn't fix the problem there a a coupla things to try:

• open in terminal as above with gksu gnome-alsamixer instead of gnome-alsamixer and do the same. This opens the mixer as super-user.
• open in terminal the non-GUI alsamixer and do the same thing. The non-gui alsamixer how-to is shown at Desktop install with Audigy Soundcard - no sound & errors in syslog which is how I fixed my system before gnome-alsamixer was working.

One option is to set a startup command with a lower setting, dunno if it works for your problem but should:

Do this: (change number 60 to your need between 0-100)

amixer cset iface=MIXER,name="Master Playback Volume" 60 >/dev/null
