Not able to fix the error "Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages."

I am trying to install python-pip. But I am getting the following error:

Solution 1:

First remove the python-pkg-resources completely using

 sudo apt-get purge python-pkg-resources

Once completed successfully, first run

  sudo apt-get -f install

then

   sudo apt-get install python-pip
