Missing sound volume icon on screen top (14.04)
Solution 1:
Execute in terminal:
gsettings set com.canonical.indicator.sound visible true
Solution 2:
Go to System Settings->Sound. Then disable and re-enable the checkbox "Show sound volume in the menu bar" in the bottom left corner.
