Ubuntu on VirtualBox with bridged network cannot access the gateway or internet

Most wireless adapters do not support bridged mode, and even if they do, most wireless APs do not. I suggest you check that bridging is supported in general on your host network interface. Sometimes DHCP requests can get accross, but that doesn't mean the adapter itself can handle answering to multiple IPs.
