Is bedding necessary?

I don't think bedding does anything in itself, but you'll want to have the animals go sleep in their shelther, since they don't get too warm/cold in there. Think of it as a "sleep here" order to the animals. Otherwise they'll just go sleep in some random location where it might be too warm/cold and then that will affect their mood for as long as they are asleep.
