SOLVED: x11 apps in WSL/ubuntu are black and white only
Solution 1:
Simple when you know how :)
After some research I found all you need is to create the following file (or modify if exists) in your WSL home: ~/.Xdefaults
Add the following line: *customization: -color
Everything works as expected.
