RGB keyboard back light turns off when Ubuntu boots (MR X6Ti)
I have a laptop custom called a TRACER II built by a company called CyberPowerPC. As I understand it they are just a rebranded version of MR XTi Laptop by MechRevo.
My laptop is dual-boot. In Windows there is an application to control the RGB keyboard and all is fine. As soon as you boot into the Linux side, the back light turns off and I am unable to get it to turn back on.
Tried all the xset led
etc. None of them work. The keyboard shortcut doesn't work.

When I press the back light button Fn+F7 I get this error in dmesg

I'm developing a open-source project to control rgb backlit keyboards from a Brazilian company called Avell, which uses this same ITE 8291 device, so I'm pretty sure it's going to solve your problem. Below is the project link and some usage instructions:
Clone the repo:
git clone https://github.com/rodgomesc/avell-unofficial-control-center.git
Go to the project folder, revert for this day commit and install requirements.txt
(if you don't have python3-pip
installed, run the command sudo apt install python3-pip
first):
cd avell-unofficial-control-center && git checkout ed05cbbd6a8c616257001b987b6e96ea3b8bf0d6 && sudo -H pip3 install -r requirements.txt
All commands to handle main.py
need root permissions (you may use sudo
).
Colors available are: red, green, blue, teal, pink, yellow, orange and white.
sudo python main.py -c green -b 4
If you want to disable the LEDs:
sudo python main.py -d
The result:
