Unable to upgrade from ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10
I'm trying to upgrade from ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10. I found similar questions such as:
- Failed to release upgrade from 17.04 to 17.10
- How to install software or upgrade from an old unsupported release?
I followed the steps mentioned in the answer:
1. sudo sed -i -re 's/([a-z]{2}\.)?archive.ubuntu.com|security.ubuntu.com/old-releases.ubuntu.com/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
2. sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
3. sudo apt-get update
4. sudo apt-get install update-manager-core
5. sudo do-release-upgrade
I got this error:

The command sudo dpkg --configure -a
does not return any value.
I followed many links and I didn't succeed to upgrade it. How can I fix that?
Solution 1:
Install aptitude
on 17.04 system with:
sudo apt-get install aptitude
If nothing else helps you can change old-releases.ubuntu.com
back to archive.ubuntu.com
and then zesty
to arftul
:
sudo sed -i -re 's/old-releases.ubuntu.com/archive.ubuntu.com/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo sed -i -re 's/zesty/artful/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
And then upgrade system with
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude dist-upgrade
Solution 2:
This is the recommended solution to upgrade from an End Of Life release of Ubuntu to a supported system, follow the instructions and should work (It did for me).
